The MUF (Maximum Useable Frequency) is the highest frequency likely to allow DX propagation. CF (Critical Frequency) is the highest frequency likely to allow NVIS (Near Incidence Vertical Skywave) propagation.
While DX (Distance) communication is what we usually desire, NVIS allows for more reliable local and regional communications (150-300 km).
